Butt seriously...

They do. On the C4 A6, the switch gets hinky after a while and it 
will cause the mysterious opening. When I picked up my gray wagon 
from Chris Semple, about 15 minutes into the drive home, it popped 
the roof open. It was like the Audi gods were saying "welcome 
back."

Now if I could only explain why the sunroof *closes* on my B5 
A4...
