Surprisingly, this was the first "real" snow I've ended up driving in in the
Catskills of upstate NY.
Ended up doing a 43 mile highway stint on unplowed "sticky" snow between 2 -
3" yesterday night.
The Altimax were stable and predictable, on a less than stable snow car (the
Saabaru) when it was running on Nokian WR-G2s (although I guess this
wouldn't be unexpected). FWIW, based upon my recollection, they seemed to
have more bite than my Nokian RSi's. This morning when I could see
(visibility was downright impossible last night, I ended up doing about 20
miles on fogs and city lights only, Hella MicroDE's are amazing!) it was
still fun enough that you can get power oversteer out the tires without
having to do a "flick". Overall, pretty impressed. Still IMHO, at least on
a Subaru, they are noisy and "lumpy" and not fun in the dry. BUT they did
the job they were supposed to do last night.
