Kent-
Salt won't do anything to aluminum once you've formed a layer of oxide.
Galvanic corrosion won't stop, though- bolt steel through aluminum without
some sort of insulating material and you'll have a problem.
An old A8 sounds scary as a beater- talk about maintenance costs.
