I think intuition will tell you the groan is in the steering, not the  
brake
portion of the hydraulics, Chris.

It could be the pump to rack pressure hose, which has a restrictor also,
but I think you will find the groan is in the rack caused by some  
internal
seal leaking. If it is the hose, the system will transmit pump pulses  
to the
steering wheel.

Hopefully, you will not be groaning as well.
