Mike I hate to break it to you but there are TONS of adults on FB.  It's the anti-myspace if you will.... at least in my opinion.  I'm not going to go so far as to say more mature, but that all depends on who you allow on your friend list.  

As an aside, I'd say your 16 year old is trying to keep her 16 year-old "friend-world" just that....for better or for worse.  That's your call.
