So, while driving over to meet my neighbor at a local watering hole last
night, the car cut out and died.
...........Thoughts???
I haven't been and wont be able to check any of this since its too cold
out
and the car is being AAA'd to the mechanic.
Bill~so fast as not to be running~m
Bill, I replaced that CPS not too long before sending you the long block
engine, but it was a BBAutomacao part that was spliced into the original
115K mile old (and 11 years) harness wires, and I do recall that they
were a bit on the oxidized side of what I'd like to see for a delicate
electronic wire splice. Not sure if you re-did that piece when
refreshing the engine, but I wouldn't dismiss the CPS as a potential
problem (now or future) if you did not change anything there.
That said, when I did have the CPS problem in the original green avant,
it didn't die whilst running, only threw a check engine light, set a
code, and wouldn't start until cooled down again if you shut it off.
More classic symptoms than what you described. Half tank of bad gas
sure as heck would be consistent with your descriptions though; might
want to call that station and ask if there was anyone else with a
problem (how long after the fill up did symptoms first start?); perhaps
a bit of water in some gas and typical frigid Chicago cold temps
freezing that H2O in a line??? Warm it up an see if things change...
