Can you perhaps use washers that are pressed fit to the axles (to contain
the wobble)?
And yes, friction is independent of surface area. It's a surface area vs.
pressure trade-off thing. So, I'd avoid the scrub.
I'd think solid axle tuning. Usually on RWD solid axle cars, alignment in
the rear is easy.
