Wow late to the game here but I must re-introduce myself.
Gentelmen meet the 1976 St Wendelin's Elementery School Pinewood Derby Champ.
That's right I had some glory days in racing that I don't talk about too much
until someone brings it up. ;-)
My car (which my much older brother made) was very thin, weight low and in
the middle and wheels as straight as possible. Lots of graphite on the wheels. I
suspect he might have done some running in of the graphite but I don't know
if he did.
I understand all the theorizing on camber and all but camber will put the
axle on a bit of a bind. All of your friction is occuring where the wheel meets
the axle. You don't want camber forcing the wheel one way or the other. I
think alignment should be dead nuts zero everything. Also you don't want the
wheels to wobble. I like the 2 wheeler idea but sounds like that's been outlawed?
They also let you adjust the wheels while the car is on the track. My car was
doing pretty well most of the day but not winning by a large margin. On the
last run I adjusted all the wheels so they were totally flat against the track
and won that heat by a mile!
Sounds like you might be at a bit of a disadvantage aerodynamically. Pics!!
My 2Cents ;-)
