[s-cars] Gas smell in cabin - where to look?

Don't feel bad. My car is fairly "new" compared to others so I do
preventative maintenance from what I see being discussed on the list if it's
reasonable. It just so happened I had a can of POR 15 to paint a newly
received metal x-over pipe and as there was chatter on the list about fuel
leaks from pin holes I thought "what the hey" and did it. Will be replacing
the fuel pump relay soon and measuring impedance of injectors!!!!

Actually, fuel smell has not returned! Drove car to my wrench this morning -
1km away so engine didn't get hot. He couldn't find a leak. Drove car to
work - no smell. Drove car home, no smell. Drove car around tonight, again
no smell.

A colleague suggested I may have driven through some spilled gas at the
station I passed. Would explain what I experienced though will keep a close
eye (and nose) on it.

Thanks to all who replied.

Tony makes the rest of us look bad by writing:

Crikey. Well then I'll second the thought on the gas tank.
The gas tank on my '80 had to be replaced because of a leak
at the seam.
