[s-cars] 2004 A4, Avant, 1.8T, 6spd; insights?

matt- my mom has a 2004 1.8T avant with a 5 speed. Hers has the sport 
package and is some shade of metallic gray with gray leather (sunroof, 
xenon)
 She bought it CPO with about 25k on it and it now has 71k. She had some 
sort of power steering issue (covered by CPO warranty)
 and a few interior issues ( armrest cover broke off, rear gate latch fails 
intermittantly) but overall likes the car. She has done 1 audiclub track 
event in it.
Hers has been on synthetic oil ( elf 5w-40 ) all of its life with her. Prior 
owner had serviced @ dealer with synthetic (castrol). No sludge issues- but 
that is
the key to no sludge- using synthetic oil from what i have seen . Make sure 
the car you are looking @ has been on synthetic- i work in the insurance 
field and have had to deal with
5 or so passats and earlier a4's with 1.8t that did have sludge problems. 
All these owners had no clue what synthetic oil was. Mom has since chipped 
the veh (APR) and
i can attest it can slice thru traffic with ZERO lag. The gas pedal is more 
like an on/ off switch. ( boost  falls off above 5400 since the turbo is so 
small)  She says she gets 27-28
on the highway. Of course look at the suspension- the control arms in the 
front are pricey to replace when worn out. Hope this helps.  -Rob
