Thanks for the various responses.

I'm pretty certain this is pinging - I did pull all the plugs - none had damage/pieces missing.

The 02 sensor is fairly low cost (may have one on the shelf) and affects fuel maps. So I'll try that next.

Relaying the fuel pump sounds interesting - and perhaps for a later project - but since this is for light throttle, rather than WOT issue - do you think it is still a possible culprit?

Vittorio,

if the plugs indicate it's running rich let's approach it assuming the sound isn't pinging you
are hearing. What spark plugs are you using? I've read about several instances where the
ceramic on the Bosch plugs became loose and rattled...perhaps you have rattly plugs
that sounds like a pinging noise? You could try swapping plugs to see what happens.


Assuming it isn't running rich I would recommend checking into a fuel pump that can provide 
more fuel...or at least relaying the fuel pump, which you might want to do anyway so link to
