[s-cars] Rear caliper guide pins and carrier source

Kevin,

I think I saw this question on some other forum, and intended to
answer but I don't contribute to those sites and had not got around to
looking up your email.

I bought a pair of pins with boots for $38.90 from Blau about 5 or 6
years ago. You are welcome to one or all of these.

Adirondack <www.germanautoparts.com> has the carriers listed with
pins for $61.50. Illustration shows boots also.
The have the boots with the bolts for $9.92. Both of these are
excellent prices since they are probably genuine Audi or Lucas
parts. These parts at Miramar Audi are $59.40 and $14.58 respectively
for the #443 615 425 A and 443 698 470 parts.

I have a Chicago Rawhide 6405 seal I bought at NAPA for $4.95. It
replaces the seal on the cam pin below the parking brake spring
to retain the grease. (I have been stocking for 4 S6s but once these
northern vehicles have been repaired, there are no corrosion
issues here.)

The M8 x 21 bolts are about $1.50 at the dealer. N 010-241-24 might
be the number. They are $0.90 at Miramar Audi if you order
anything there (order extra and you will have them ready for front or
rear IIRC).

Jerry, this is the bolt that secures the slide pin to the carrier.
You need to restrain the pin from turning with a thin 15mm OE wrench
while R/R the bolt. It is only a 8mm bolt secured with locktite blue,
so careful with the torque. Use new bolts since you never know
what the previous hand used.

Let me know if I can help.

Tom

Hello all

What started out as a simple parking brake cable replacement has
turned into a caliper rebuilding, fuel line replacing, exhaust
repairing extravaganza. 15 Northeastern winters have taken their toll
on the underside of my S4, and leaving the car stationary for the last
3 months hasn't helped. I had seized lower guide pins on both rear
calipers, and while I was able to free up the driver's side, one pin
on the passenger side broke off while I was trying to remove it. I
ordered a new caliper, assuming it would come with a carrier or at
least guide pins, but it didn't.

I haven't been able to find an economical source for a new carrier
with guide pins, or better yet just a set of pins. Any suggestions?

Thanks
-Kevin
