Yeah, but you'll lose more than $4500 on depreciation in the first year!
This is why I never have understood buying a car new.  Let's see, I bought
an '01 A6 5 years ago, and have literally spent less than $1k on repairs,
and I bought it for $20k less than it sold for new.  So, if I do the math in
that instance, I could:
A. Sell the car for $2500 and buy my used car for $20k less than list and
pay $1k in maintenance costs, or
B. Buy my brand new car for list price, pay $20k more, but at least I get
that extra $2k out of the car

Where I learned math, this is a no brainer.

New cars are absolutely the worst investment of all time....sorry.  The
$4500 offer, now just makes it a little less of a bad investment while
junking perfectly running older cars that are the only thing some people can
afford to buy, especially in a recession.  This is all about enforcing what
some people perceive as a "green" agenda in Washington.  They've been trying
to do it for years in the classic car circles, because after all, those
1,000 1971 Camaros that are still on the road and average about 5k miles a
year each are what is causing all this global warming, don't you know?  It's
just now that we are in the business of printing money, handing it out, and
not worrying about what that same money will be worth tomorrow, they have
permission to do it and a willing sponsor.

Sad as it is the values of our cars at $4500 is somewhat attractive to
consider, when looking the additional customer incentatives from dealers on
new cars.

The true saddness comes when the car is crushed, and not availble for resale
of any of the parts.
Which is worth quite a bit more to our group!
