[s-cars] injectors

 John,

Let's see if I can answer some of your concerns.

Basically my car was stock with 80K miles when I bought it 7 years ago.? It now has 154K miles and is RS2.? The first thing I did was go to the MTM 1+ software.? It was faster than stock but I had pinging at full acceleration.? It was rather peaky in its power delivery.? Mileage was about 20 mpg.? Another thing I didn't care for was that occasionally the kitties would stink.? At about 105K miles I went to the Mihnea RS2 software, along with the RS2 turbo & exhaust.? Power delivery is much smoother, kitties don't stink, and it passes Illinois pollution tests just fine.? Did I notice a huge difference in power from the MTM to Mihnea? Not really but I'm sure there was a substantial increase.? On the highway the car seems to always be position to accelerate easily.? Gas mileage - going to RS2 I think I lost around 10% - now my in town mileage is just over 18mpg, on the highway cruising at 75 to 80mph I can get around 25mpg, just fine by me.? I additional change I made was going to a Stratmoshpere diverter (blow off) valve.? I blew out the stock one out in short order after buying the car.? Fuel injectors - with the RS2 upgrades I went with the recommended Delphi injectors.? I would have gone with genuine RS2 injectors but didn't want to spend the $600 that they were.? About a year or two later I heard about the much lower cost RS2 equivalent injectors and I bought a set of those.? As I stated before with the Bosch injectors the idle is more stable.? Under the Delphis the idle speed seem to hunt up and down.

Mods I didn't do include the exhaust - the factory system is nice and quiet.? I have other toys for going fast.? The S6 is a day-to-day driver.? I didn't go with the FMIC - too much work IMO.? Didn't go with the 6-spd transmission.? I have the "good" first gear 5spd and I don't track this car.? Torsen rear differential - sitting in my side porch for the past 3 years.? Didn't do bigger wheels - I like the Avus and Fuchs.? I didn't do "greatly" bigger brakes but I did go with Boxster S brakes with 314 x 30mm rotors. Whether that was a worthwhile upgrade I'm not sure. The one time I did need to squeeze them they did work well.?

Mods done and worthwhile include:? Lower suspension with '92 springs (aka euro sport springs) and Bilstein shocks.? OEM euro HID headlights (very pricey and hard to find).

Towards the specific questions you had - I do not have soot on my bumper.? Unless it rains my exhaust system doesn't get cleaner.? 1.9 spring? No.? Power seems just fine with the stock spring and no I don't have a boost gauge.? Would I go a different route?? Probably not.? Years ago I had a 1984 911 Carrera.? Autoauthority (?) offered software upgrades.? I passed on the first version but bought the second (V2.5).? It worked well, it was a little peaky but better than stock.? Later they offered a free upgrade to the next version (V2.7).? It was less peaky but still quick.? I called them up and was told that they kept the "power" in their program but smoothed out the curves.? They claimed it was easier on the engine.? I had access to a chip reader back then and there was little common code between the two versions.? And, of course, all of us that have been on a road course or autocross know that "smoother is faster."

Good luck and have fun,

Mark near Chicago ?

Hey Mark,

I may upgrade from MRC stage 2 to their RS2 chipset at some point in a
month or two.

Currently my MRC stage 2 (just chipset and Vmap) software seems to run
rich, but I base that off of my dirty Stromung tips that become sooted
within a day or two after cleaning them. How does the MRC RS2 run?
Do you get a lot of soot on your exhaust tips?

Are you running the 1.9Bar spring or the stocker?

Are you satisfied with the MRC RS2 programming or would you go another
route if you had to do it all over again? I plan on using the
injectors I linked.

Thanks for your thoughts,

John
