[s-cars] S Car values

They aren't lies, they are facts.? A Prius is quite environmentally costly to produce and dispose of.? What happens during ownership could be described as "good" but that isn't the whole picture.? Most studies focus on production and ownership... and ignore disposal.

The foolishness of the article written by a college student comparing a Prius to a Hummer is not where I get my information.? Even in high quality studies (that ignore disposal) the SUV is the loser, but not by that much.? I'd argue that comparing the Prius to an SUV is a stupid exercise in the first place... do a study comparing it to other economy cars... and include disposal.? When the true figures of the Prius became known (45mpg average) it is no longer a viable option against other economy cars.

Further, these studies are typically limited to greenhouse gas emissions... and this is only one piece of the equation when it comes to environmental damage.

Bottom line... the Prius is not a good current option to minimize impact on the environment.? Your TDI or a Camry is.

BTW, much of that "prius isn't green" stuff is made up lies. At one point the "fact" that a prius was more environmentally costly than a hummer was out there. It just isn't true. Now a Jetta TDI vs a prius? I'd wager the Jetta wins, and is a much nicer car to drive to boot. But there's a place for the prius. If I were doing stop and go city driving I'd seriously consider it, as the 51 mpg city is very hard to beat, but I have a 90% highway 60 mile (total) commute each day, and the TDI will do very well on that, plus it's a darn nice car.
