A new A4 with a proper manual and a good TDI engine and quattro would be
tempting, but the problem is that the B8s are solid $40k price range, well
equipped.
I'd rather get a $20k used car and have $20k to spend on gas.
Depreciation is precisely the reason why I don't get rid of the V70R and get
a ML320 Bluetec- I'd rather have the bigger SUV that gets better mileage,
even though it will be much more of a pig and handle poorly; however, the
V70R has depreciated a good $30k and it doesn't pay to replace it unless
it's 10 yrs. old with 120k miles.
