Matt,
im not sure I completely comprehend your exhaust gasket woes. turbo to
manifold in your first post.., if youre looking to replace the gasket, then
yes the turbo needs to come off so that the new gasket can go around all the
studs, unless youre going for a 'temporary' fix like 'honda bond'.. are your
absolutely sure that is where your leak is? in just replacing my whole motor
with rs2 turbo goodies & more, I found a crack where my stromung goes from
corrugated wastegate flange to the weld meeting the main pipe. just be sure
youre getting the correct leak before you go through all that work. ... but
at that point it may be most prudent to R&R all the gaskets if youre
willing.

BTW, I agree with blue loctite, the proper tq value with the proper tools
and think the bentley gives a pretty accurate statement on belt tension.
