I respect Sean's experience and kinda side with Teddie
That clip is spring steel type of material, sits in a slot in the axle and
is buried under the old grease so access will not be easy. As such the clip
is probably harder than it is soft to retain a spring action.
You would have to work on the large diameter boot end, inside that axle
housing to access and remove, I think that's a PITA if I'm half right.
I thought tugging on the CV end,(inserting the old bolt and used as a
puller) would squeeze that clip closed into the axle slot and allow the CV
end to migrate out over the clip and off the end of the axle.
But I don't want to break anything in there harassing that CV end.
