Jerry, I to am contemplating my clutch/trans replacement. How high are those high lift jack stands? If you wouldn"t  mind I also would find that write-up useful. I so much wanted to post my results after my recent Apikol FMIC install, but after making an appointment for a few dyno runs I noticed the clutch slipping. This sucks! I guess this will be the time for a better transmission ( 1st gear noise ) 92S4. Anyone now of a good source? Thanks Dan Koropchak

I'm not sure how you'd save a couple grand on a job that's only 1k$ P&L? 
You don't need to pull the downpipe to get that trans out.
But yes, having a lift makes it quicker and easier to do the job.
