[s-cars] Oops..sent too early (was cam/crank seal)

These seals are designed for a specific diameter. If a seal is forced over
a larger diameter surface, the two seal lips will wear out in very short
time. Not sure what this will do to the crank, but the seal will not last
very long.

The outside diameter is likely the same allowing for the seal to fit. The
problem is, I believe the cam sealing diameter is smaller than the crank
sealing diameter. This would mean that there would be extra pressure on the
crank from the seal.
While seemingly not a big problem, this may cause the crank to develop a
groove at the sealing point. Crazy? I thought so until I had to repair my
crank on my 454 BBS. They offer a thin sleeve to put over the crank sealing
service to repair this. I would doubt this part is available for the Audi
crank.
I would suspect that an Audi crank would not wear like a 1970 American crank
but you never know...

Certified factory trained Audi master technician of 25 years. I bought both,
we agree that the cam seal is easy and he'll just do the crank seal while
doing the tb. He tells me yesterday he forgot to do the coolant T and I blow
it off thinking that's not hard to do myself. Then today I'm going through
the trunk and find the thermostat and the seal, only it's not the cam seal,
it's the crank seal! He put the cam seal on the cranshaft, and said it went
on without a problem. I labeled them based on PN and he described them to me
over the phone.. He just grabbed the wrong one I guess. What's the
consensus on how long this will last before leaking???
