Nope... Luckily VIR is about 40 minutes from me. I was planning on coming to OSQ if it happens this year, but something tells me it's not..

I thought maybe you might be coming from the north and detour through my area...

Where are you located? I am in south central PA. We can do a mad seal swap on Tuesday night in Dave's garage. I's gots the tools (well I have to borrow the crank locking tool but NBD) and have done it it more than once.
Just bring your game face and be ready to work. Couch provided (its comfy - don't ask).

I've filled it with oil earlier and we'll see how it goes tomorrow and over the weekend, but I tend to believe you're all right. I don't know if it was down from where he changed it, or if it's leaked since, but it was down a half qt tonight when I got home. I didn't see any sign of a leak with a visual insp and a droplight tho as of yet. So far about 250 miles driven since picking it up yesterday.

Problem is I have a 1 day DE at VIR Wednesday and I really didn't want to have to worry about this stuff while there.

It fits, btdt with an incorrect customer supplied part myself, especially easy if he used the audi seal install tool.  I've also done the reverse (crank on cam) with an incorrect customer supplied part.  IME with both scenarios, they'll leak in short order - like pretty much right away, a lot of oil can come from a compromised crank seal.  I'd be more worried about the too small od cam seal on crank spinning>leaking from a loose o.d. fit than the id wearing the crank.

It's on there unless he didn't do it at all and threw away the wrong new one.

i just measured 054 115 147b crank seal od = 48.3mm  id ~ 35mm   ...026 103
085d  cam seal  od= 47.25 mm   id~32 mm
i don't think the cam seal would work at all on the crank

No doubt Steve, and he's going to fix it, I just want to know if a week or two
is going to make a difference driving it.  He's a good friend and he only
charged me $150 labor, which is great if no other headaches come of it.

Wylie...

I'm assuming you paid for the mechanics services, correct?  If so, it
should be his responsibility to make it right and do the job over at no
additional cost.  Who provided the parts should not be a factor in
whether the right part gets installed in the right place.

I think wondering how long you have before the crank is grooved is the
wrong way to look at the situation.

Just my $0.02

Certified factory trained Audi master technician of 25 years. I bought
both, we agree that the cam seal is easy and he'll just do the crank
seal while doing the tb. He tells me yesterday he forgot to do the
coolant T and I blow it off thinking that's not hard to do myself.  Then
today I'm going through the trunk and find the thermostat and the seal,
only it's not the cam seal, it's the crank seal! He put the cam seal on
the cranshaft, and said it went on without a problem. I labeled them
based on PN and he described them to me over the phone.. He just grabbed
the wrong one I guess.  What's the consensus on how long this will last
before leaking???
