[s-cars] ignition coil replacement

Well then I don't feel so bad, because I checked torque regularly, just didn't change them. I noticed in the records I got with the car that the head has been heli-coiled for that.

No one should be faulting you for not changing plugs, Wylie. Perhaps
for not looking at them and checking torque, but plug life is 60K IIRC.
I would expect a DTC if you are activating the knock sensor, Teddy. I
know, Bob never gets a fault code on his car, but a good California
car should. I know you are not one of the listers that is just
waiting for a problem to justify the lasted mod, but I will say the
LS2 conversion looks like a good solution if the coils start to fail.
Eyvind Spangen started this thread and asked if the wiring on his OEM
coils could be repaired/replaced to correct his miss. I think a
careful inspection of the coil wires is in order even for routine
preventive maintenance, and especially if you have a problem. It
doesn't take replacing all the wires if they are not burnt and
corroded; just renew the insulation with good quality tape if you find
cracked insulation or bare wires. My neighbor is presently running a
set with a lot of 3M yellow tape on the wiring while we are changing a
coil on his set. When I first saw these wires I couldn't believe the
car even ran with all the opportunities for crossed signals on them.
