[s-cars] Ignition coil replacement

Dan,
I thought you meant the plastic firewall cover, which I agree with some surgery of the other connector mounting points could be made to fit. The stock valve cover does fit with this setup. I removed all traces of the stock Coils including the mounting bolts and it takes a bit of manuvering to make sure you aren't pinching any wires but it does fit on nicely. In fact I think it is absolutely necessary as the rubber gasket flanges on the shaft of the spark plug boots (3B style?) sit too high as installed and do not sit within the depth of the ANN valve cover hole with means that with the valve cover off dirt and debris could easily find its way into the spark plug whole and when you change your spark plugs next could find its way into the combustion chamber.
When installing the EFI kit I also replaced the spark plugs and noticed that some rubber bits from the old deteriorating stock coil boot plugs had lodged between some of the spark plugs. As I was painstakingly cleaning this out with coat hanger wire, a flashlight and a mini vacuum kit I also found a small pebble in one of the other spark plug chambers and this was with the stock coil cover tightly in place! Luckily I was able to remove and was glad I had checked the other cylinders before removing the plugs.
Another popular modification with this setup is to install a 3B valve cover which has the holes for the taller spark plug boots to be exposed at the top.
Aaron

Thanks Aaron. My stock ones are still good at 128K but I always like to be prepared for a fast decision when needed. Do you know by how much the cover does not clear? Maybe the Apikol with risers will work. I would rather have a finished look, but not necessary. Function is always the priority. Respectfully, Dan Koropchak
