Hello all, stuck here in Milwaukee enjoying owning this car with whats left of the winter
(8" of snow expected tomorrow night). I'm running the stock Avus 16" wheels with new (11/08) Blizzak REVO 1s and plan to leave them as a dedicated set for winters.
I'm planning to change over to 18" 9 spoke Audi replicas with General UHP rubber but wanted to lower it to enhance the appearance of the plus 2 conversion. I was lucky enough to locate the set of Eibach springs with the part numbers that this website indicates require no maching or spacers:
http://www.elektro.com/~audi/eibach/
this site states
".....1529.140 Kit combination three: p/n 1527.001 F, 1516.002 R
With the currently provided North American kit (combination three), you should get a level ride with Bilstein Sport shocks. This should not require any machining or spacers on a UrS4/S6 sedan. I can't speak to Avant's."
it also states
"......Sedan 4WD (Quattro) 1991 - 1997 2.3, 2.6, 2.8, 2.5 TDI, S4, S6
Pro-Kit 1528.140 - p/n 1527.001 F, 1516.002 R "
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I now own a set of 1528.140 with spring part numbers
1527001VA & 1516002HA verified by the seller
Sorry for the wandering prelude.....my question to you is this. With the spring package
I describe......is it imperative that I change shocks from whatever is on my car now.
Sorry, don't know whats on my car now as I write this but believe it to be stock or equal
as about 99% of the car appears to be stock everywhere. I've always read the discussions
regarding Bilstein "sports" or "HD" but don't get the impression that there is one clear
preferred combination......but I don't believe I've ever read any discussion that doesn't
require a shock change.....is it required for me to get new shocks - Bilstein? - when I
proceed to lower my car next month with the Eibach package - (sidebar: guy that sold
me the spring kit stated he used to work for Bilstein and said he would instead recommend that I go with a Koni set that he would choose for me when I was ready to make my change - anyone have a comment or advice on Koni instead of Bilstein). I can tell you that my ideal ride choice would lean toward a softer ride sacrificing flat cornering as the torn-up-potholed-poorly-repaired-and-patched Milwaukee roads don't do a sportier setup any favors at all.
I especially look forward to hearing from any of you living in the snow belt to comment on your lowered car's behaviour in the snow.....any different than stock ride height?
Thanks in advance so much for all the input you all provide as it keeps me excited about
my car and will keep it on the road for many years to come.....it took me 13 years to get this car and I plan to enjoy it through all these Milwaukee seasons, there is nothing like
the look on my passenger's face as the power of this sleeper allows me to point and shoot
at whatever traffic slot I want on the freeways or when I can pull ten car lengths on Any sort of traffic from a red light with more than eight inches of snow on the roads, that kicks ass.
regards, Patrick
