There are two small checkboxes on a MA Chapter 90 uniform citation;
one is criminal, the other is civil.  If criminal is checked, you have
a court date in a few days.

Since a criminal case requires a higher burden of proof, you have to
do something really stupid or dangerous to 'earn' a criminal
application; they're going for best-chance-of-punishment.  Here's an
example of that playing out, though involving a bit more than just
speeding, yadda yadda.  This isn't intended as a direct comparison.
