[s-cars] MA inspection suggestions?

What's crazy is the emissions thing - which I was more worried about passing
since I have no idea how the TAP-crap chip tests... but apparently Mass has
given up on sniffing COMPLETELY.
Especially odd because MA was one of those states that said all inspection
stations were spozed to get rollers and make all cars do 'on road' type
testing etc. etc. There'd been some famous incidents when more than a few
Quattros apparently were tossed on 2-wheel rollers and the tester quickly
found out the 'quattro' symbol on the dash meant AWD. And at one point the
reg was out that ALL shops would have to buy incredibly expensive 4-wheel
rollers for emissions testing...
But the rollers are all gone now, and I guess as of Oct last year '95 and
older (aka pre-OBD-II) doesn't ever have to be emissions tested again!
Woo-hoo go 95.5 S6.
Basically it's all aimed at OBD-II cars - read the codes, trust that the
cars system works. And actually getting a waiver seems very possible
(basically if the repair is too expensive you can get a waiver.. what's that
logic..? incent me to get a mechanic to write a fat bill for emissions
repairs so I don't ahve to do it? shop for the most expensive replacement
cats I can find then submit that bill? )
Ironic that bureaucratic Mass are the ones to go LIGHTER on emissions
testing hassles... not what you normally expect in the Bay State...

Thankfully you got it resolved in one day! In NJ, it's almost a continuous
thing for me with 3 cars due every 2 years. Same stuff with window tint and
emissions, DOT headlamps, 'missing' (or tampered) hose on the wastegate,
copy of insurance card (must have original). Ugh! but at least they're
consistent. In my town, I need to schedule an appointment a few days in
advance and no running it through twice in the same day - they want receipts
that emissions work was done. Right now 1 of 3 cars is okay for the next 16
months.
