Somewhere I one of the bmw forums I read that the 25's have stiffer sidewalls....

Looks like the LM-25 & LM-60 are overlapping & close enough in price that I
ould get the LM-60.

Good question- thought the LM-25 was superceded by the LM-60, considering
hat is the newest tire in their lineup.
Since I don't replace snow tires for 4-5 years, I try to buy the newest
eneration in case I need to buy a couple replacements for a sidewall tear
r something like that.

 Listers-
I'm in need of new snow tires for the relatively mild northeast winters
 that
 we get here in Philadelphia.

I've been happy with my Nokian WR for the past 4 years, but they're down to
4/32" and it's time for a new set.

I looked at a new set of Nokians and have seen prices of $200 per tire in
225/45R17 for a WR and the latest Nokian R (which replaces or sits above
 the
RSi) is $300 per tire in the same size! That's getting ridiculous.

I started looking at Gislaved- need to find a Gislaved dealer that sells
 the
Euro Frost 3 (I guess I can check the local Volvo dealer). The
 well-regarded
Nord Frost 5 is a studded snow, don't need that here.

 I'm also looking at:
 Conti TS810S
 Michelin Pilot Alpin PA3
Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II
possibly the Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60 (afraid the sidewalls will be too
soft and the compounding will be too soft and wear very quickly)
possibly Dunlop SPWintersport 3D (this is the oldest design I'm looking at,
probably superceded by several generations of newer tires listed above)

What are your experiences with a more performance-oriented snow tire? I'm
not looking for deep snow and ice performance, as we very very rarely get
those conditions here, but I'm looking for a really good studless snow that
won't get bogged down in slush and wet snow. It's going on the Volvo V70R,
which is very similar in weight and power to the UrS- roughly 4000 lbs.,
 300
hp and running 17x8 wheels- need a 225/45R17 snow tire if not a 235/45.

 Thanks,
 Taka
