I'd suggest a Tom-Tom, very configurable (i.e you can switch the keyboard
layout for entering an address) and very robust.

Look at the Garmins. Their UI is easy (except for the alphabetic  
keyboard), the maps are pretty accurate, and it does a good job  
routing. Kathryn loved hers until we got the new Jetta with nav, and  
Storey took the Garmin. I was pretty impressed with TomTom on my old  
Treo, and have been far less impressed with Magellan.

Look at map coverage and screen size, then borrow my Scottish heritage  
and spend as little as you can, as even the lower priced ones are both  
quite nice, and easy to use.
