sounds so familiar... where have I heard that before? hmmm something like
"not true of earlier cars which required plugging right into the airbag
module (deep in the center console IIRC?)" OK I'll stop now...
As I thought back further on this I recalled at some point originally I also
thought I had to go in there to clear the light. After pulling the radio and
other center console stuff, got all the way in only to find no ports...
later discovered all I needed to do was plug into the under-hood...
It's a real pain to get to the module behind / below the radio vs popping
the hood, so if you want to go in anyway just for expeditionary fun be my
guest. But even for cars with the connectors on that module in the console
it still requires a Vag-tool that talks on a KL-line interface (aka THERE IS
NO no magic hidden button press or short-the-wires trick), SO if I was yous,
since you need a VAG tool EITHER WAY, I'd be sure to try the main underhood
diag connector first, then if that doesn't work (should take all of 4
minutes to find out) dig in further....
You should know right away if the main diag connector is going to work if
Vag Com finds the module or not, if it searches and never finds the module
you can be pretty sure it's the 'stand-alone' airbag module.
What the cutover is for cars that have the old-skool setup I'm not sure but
I thought it was early 90's, i.e. all S6's should well be past that date.
