[s-cars] Door and Window Trim

Patrick,

Try a product called Flitz, its a metal cleaner/polish that seems to work on many applications. I've seen more than a few Audi's with the aluminum trim discolored, some gas station car washes us a strong chemical to remove the dirt, if you wash your car often enough the chemical bath is enough to gently corrode the metal. Several body shops have confirmed this. Anyway, try the Flitz product or 3M makes a decent metal cleaner also.

Subject: [s-cars] The S6 rack replacement from hell continues

List folk I've really enraged the Audi gods on my S6 rack replacement.

So I've got the second rack in, those of you following my earlier saga may
recall that I ruined the first by putting the valved banjo in the return
position Jorgen gets full credit for shipping another ASAP and updating
their tags so that others might not follow my lead!

Now onto the issue at hand; the steering column will allow the rack to move
far enough back toward the firewall! I can see the splines fully engaged
on the rack so I know it is not binding. I recall from the first install
that the column slid back easily enough to get the rack mounted up. I get
some fore/aft movement but not enough to allow the driver's side of the rack
to sit in the correct position to be mounted.

Before I start taking apart the lower part of the dash, any BTDT for this
issue?

Regards

Subject: [s-cars] sstl window trim

Does anyone have any recommendations on the restoring the finish on the sstl window trim? I'm considering several approaches such as a polish, perhaps toothpaste or is that too abrasive.....ow about some products from Griot's? Would a gentle application of an SOS pad improve or destroy the finish? Also, I'd like to know how many of you restore the finish and improve the looks of the valve cover and intake......does anyone have a favorite application to keep their leather in top shape? I'm assuming no one likes the overdone look of that too-shiny or slimy appearance, also would appreciate no strong smells(I even hate the smell of hand lotion) .....but mostly I appreciate all these opinions as well as the "don'ts".......as always everyone, thanks so much for all the postings from all of you.

Patrick-

The trim isn't stainless, it's aluminum. Unfortunately, on the cars I've
worked with, particularly ones from the NE/Midwest, in addition to the
finish being hazy they are typically pretty corroded on the inside where
they're pop riveted to the door shell. I'm planning to replace mine with the
black trim from an earlier car at some point, but it's a pretty big task-
the quarter windows need to be swapped out to match.

Subject: [s-cars] Eibach spacer info needed

Gentz,

After switching from Bilsteins to Boge/Sachs stock I find I have a rear end that is too low
I called Eibach today and the Tech didn't know anything about a spacer, but started researching
after I sent him this link:

http://www.elektro.com/~audi/eibach/

Does anyone know the part number for the spacer Eibach provided to correct for the low rear spring they provided?

Or does anyone have theEibach spacers?

Thanks
Chris

Subject: [s-cars] More Tire Dribble

FWIW

So Goodyear dumps my favourite tire, the F1 GS-D2 some time ago,
but years later reincarnates it under the "Fierce" brand as "UHP."
$70. The old F1 tires were uhmm. I think about $165 ..EACH!

Check em out.
Tread pattern is identical. Prolly made in China instead of .de.

Ps

The local GY store claims that this "Fierce UHP" is discontinued now too..

Subject: [s-cars] sstl window trim

Staring at my screen with chin resting on the palms of my hands, I puzzled
over "sstl." SuperSonicTurboLag or something?

Ohhh, now I get it.

Two rolls of this will work:
