What I did for ten years with the 200q20v- idle the car while you work
on clearing the snow :)  Best practice doesn't mean perfect!

As for fogging up windows:
-breath
-moisture in and on clothing which is warmed up by you
-perspiration (after all that hard work clearing the car.)
