[s-cars] Re; Chewed up tires

There wasn't a shop that could align my car, only 1-2 considered the
possibility of camber plates.

I was running through the insides of tires like crazy! My Avant was not
lowered, in fact it was using HD Bilstein inserts.

Well if you don't believe the toe in could possibly be that far out on both
sides, can you believe the Control arm rubber bushings could be bad?

Until I replaced my Control Arms, the shocks or inserts (whatever you wish
to call them), Strut Bearings, Strut Mounts, Motor Mounts. Then surprising
enough the alignment was a no brainer.

That was last summer and haven't had any problems with tire wear and talk
about better handling.

Although don't accept any FEQ Strut Mounts, been through like 3 of them on
one side. Luckily none of them involved hood damage when they let go.

I can't believe the toe could be off both sides enough to scrub off

the tread without serious indicators, i.e., apparent lack of power,

poor mileage, and poor handling at slow or

high speed. Hard to accept that camber would not be visible from a

casual glance down the side of the vehicle. I don't care if the wear

was on the inside of the tire, Abe,

they and other critical parts deserve a safety check more often than

20K miles. Unless the car has poorly repaired collision damage, it

can be aligned without aftermarket

parts and the suspension is sturdy enough to remain aligned unless the

parts are worn out. Sounds like it wasn't done properly when tires

were installed, and then the

operator was negligent in routine maintenance or takes a daily

shortcut down the RR tracks.
