[s-cars] Snow tires for this winter

Taka,

We have Nokian WR G2s on my wife's Saabaru (WRX). The plan is to run them
for a full year and then turn them into a summer tire thereafter since her
driving doesn't call for Z-rated Kumho Ecstas. Dry and wet performance is
better than expected. The siping isn't as aggressive as a true snow tire,
which I think would come in handy for the icy/slush conditions you get near
32F. Nokian says the new compound itself should make up for what the siping
lacks. I think it's a good tire for your application, since storms aren't
too frequent in the mid-Atlantic and roads get cleared quickly. Also, take a
look at Green Diamond Tires and their steel carbide-based traction system.
It's a remolded tire, so not for everyone. I've used them here in VT for the
last 5 years with much success.
