Hey Ben, thanks for the note and the kind offer. Don't know how closely you
have been following, but to paraphrase Brian (it's his car), he is going to
check if his idiot wrench disconnected the module/controller under the rear
seat. The list consensus is that VAG-COM does not read/interface with ABS
on the older cars. Weird but hey it is an Audi. If'n Brian goes your way
I'll likely tag along for the comraderie.
Thanks from me and on behalf of Brian.
Regards,
Mark

Subject: ABS Off Light Problem - VAG COM
Mark,
I don't know if S4 and the other post '91 cars with OBD II have same type
of interface the older control unit or not. VAG used a special scanner to
interrogate the unit by manual switches. I have this and can scan the
system for vehicles that use this interface - it is inserted inline between
the controller and the vehicle cable. It checks out the major components in
the system - sensors, relays, pumps, etc. I have used it on several older
ABS cars including the '91 2Ctq20V, '88-90 200 and '85-88 5ktq.
However I thought the later cars interfaced with ABS and other systems with
OBD and could be interrogated with VAG-COM. Sometimes these sub-systems do
not "report" properly to VAG-COM.
Maybe others have some clues. If you think the VAG scanner is what you need
to use, come on down.
Most ABS controllers I've seen are under the seat.
Ben

Gents:
I met up with Brian this evening to pull codes and I could not read/ connect
to the ABS module. I first ran Autoscan and some trivial codes came up but
no reading on ABS. Going directly to the ABS module and no connection. I
tried several times to no avail. I have access to an old HEX COM with the
OBD II connector and the 2x2 adapter dongle. I would have suspected the
dongle but connection was established with other controllers.
Thoughts? Is it possible the controller itself is messed up? I rang up
Mark Turczyn as I had already pestered Manny Sanchez and Mark though maybe
the no read condition is due to a bad connection to the ABS controller
itself. Seem plausible? Where might the controller be located as I gifted
my Bentley to Mark when I sold the S6.
Any and all insights are greatly appreciated. Brian is a hell of a nice guy
and I'd love to see this to closure but your help is definitely needed.
Thanks in advance,
Mark]
