I can't speak with 100% certainty, but if the AAN ECU behaves in the
same way as the 3B ECU, fault codes are either permanent, or tagged as
"intermittent". Basically, if something only fails slightly/briefly,
for example, a loose connection to a knock sensor, the ECU stores it
first as an intermittent code. If it gets worse, it's upgraded to a
"real" fault code.
I can't remember if the intermittent codes are erased after a period
of normal operation or not. Might very well be that a code is erased
after x number of run cycles with no fault.
Some of the newer cars do some fancy logging. When I had my R PPI'd,
the shop plugged it and did a code dump, one of the codes that came up
was "interior air quality sensor fault." I asked them about it, and
they said it was marked as having occurred once out of a couple
hundred power cycles, and that it most likely was just a spontaneous
fluke. Same thing for a suspension module code, which can get very
expensive, very fast. 4C is not known for its reliability or cost,
though better at both than DRC...
