As Cody noted there is a lock out position.  Monkey's moved it and it gets out of synch with the system despite your efforts (futile like you).  Cody also nailed it - few locks / unlocks re-sych's things.  Dunno why don't ask q's - it just is.

Plus, you suck of course.
