Unfortunately I do not have knowledge of indies in Northern Virginia,  
but if she can't find anything nearby I would recommend a place in  
Rockville MD called:

I take my car there now and they are very thorough. They know about  
the old Audi's. The shop is managed by a father son team, although  
recently the father (Albino) has "mostly" retired and left the day to  
day management to his son, Paulo (who is a former MARRS road race  
champion in GTI's). Paulo's Uncle works there as a mechanic, and is  
the one who works on my ol pig when it goes in.

They offer great customer service to boot.

I think the labor rate is $86.50/hr.

Now the downside:

They seem to ALWAYS be busy. Sometimes you need to make appointments  
a couple(or more) weeks out, and once it is in there its possible it  
might be there a little longer than advertised. That's really the  
only knock against them, they are too popular.

Anyway, if some of the other suggestions don't pan out, call Paulo  
and tell him I sent her his way.
