Thought I would fill in the group on my heater blower fan issues and
ultimate success.
After a failed attempt to install a Meyle blower that had a fan that was too
big for the housing, I took some listers suggestion and ordered one from the
stealer. It was double the price, but arrived the next day. It is a Bosch
unit which is what died in the S4 after 245k. It is Bosch #0 130 111 162
and labeled "made in Brazil". It does not have any Audi rings on the fan,
but the part number on the box was the correct 4A0959101A. It has what I
think is a date code of 07-08-31 meaning 8/31/07? which if truely a mfg.
date, it had been sitting on the stealers shelf for a while. Every vender I
spoke with had either the Meyle or the Vemo, and every stealer I spoke with
had no way of knowing who made their fan unitl they opened the box.
So after swearing to never give a certain Boulder based Audi dealer my
business again due to a thoroughly botched fuel line recall fix, they came
through for me. They even gave me the "Audi Club discount" just for
asking. Saved a whopping $30!
Again, a big shout out to Fred Monroe for his how-to. Would not have
attempted this myself without his excellent write-up. Still couldn't get
that bottom hidden screw back in though! I think I could do this again
tomorrow in about 1.5 hours after having done it three times in the
last 1.5wks! Not that I want to.
I'll be getting the brushes replaced on the old Bosch unit and shelving it
for a future (hopefully a long time away) fix for either the S4 or the S6A.
Anybody know a good shop for this in the Denver area? Guess it doesn't have
to be Denver, since I'll ship it anyway.
Thanks for the help folks.
