[s-cars] Cruise Control inoperable

I agree that the switch cover can be split to access the switch innards without removing the airbag/wheel/column switches if you are going to use contact cleaner. But if you are going to completely dismantle the switch for a thorough cleaning of the circuit board, you need to disconnect the connector from the column harness. To do this, you need to remove the switch cluster from the column so you can access the screws holding the stalk switch harness to the switch cluster. This allows the circuit board to slide out of the stalk for cleaning since you can slide the wiring up the switch stalk.
I didn't mean to run down the contact cleaner method, but I have never had it do any good.

Perhaps true Steve although I do a lot of work with contact cleaner and it
is designed to "creep & seep" around corners. Personally I agree with you
I'd take it apart, but the switch is disassmbleable without pulling the bag,
wheel or contact ring. The way the shell pops apart you can really get the
end fully opened up right there in the car without having to remove the
entire stalk. Just have to be careful not to lose that micro spring and
other parts as you do it. I've even re-wired a stalk without pulling the
wheel (although yes not real fun task). You mentioned B5 platforms, that
definitely might be different than the old stuff but on the old stuff switch
cleaning doesn't require too much work.
