If you are without vag-com or the will to remove some interior panels to
check the flap motors, you may be able to listen very carefully while
adjusting individual temp settings to tell if the motors are moving. Hard to
tell if the full range of movement happens that way though.. And if you hit
the temp up too fast it may make the fan spin faster when you want no extra
noise.
No vacuum valve. Had the thermostat opened when you took those measurements?
temp sounds a bit low, but shows that its drawing some heat off.
I once did fix a girl's HC who was in tears with a very similar situation,
that couldnt afford the HC let alone labor. I might get chastised here, but
mind you the tubing should be copper, not aluminum which could make a very
volatile combination.. What I did was hook up a hose to each port under the
cowl, blew air through, then distilled water, then more air, then potassium
hydroxide (drano), let it soak for an hour or so, purged sediment, soaked
again, purged with plenty of distilled and air, refilled and heat returned.
I had warned her that it could possibly turn into a bad situation, but it
never leaked so I wasnt too worried about it exploding into her passenger
compartment and if it had to get tee'd off she would have had just as much
heat, none..
With that situation above there was very good flow through the core, but I
presumed the walls of the tubing were ?calcified and not making good heat
transfer.
