Brian:
Don't forget that the tire sidewall construction and the condition of your local roads as factors.
I've historically run Nokian Hakkas which have tended to have softer sidewalls than say a Dunlop Graspic.
That said i'd prefer the Nokians or Gislavid Nordfrosts in deep snow compared to the Dunlops, but if you drive on plowed roads, the Graspic will give better highway and cornering performance in other conditions.
Also, if your area is prone to potholes and other obstacles, more sidewall is better at saving your wheels and suspension, not to mention your fillings.
Of course if you are unlucky enough to have frozen bilsteins due to water intrusion and subsequent freezing, the increased sidewall may be a mute point.
YMMV
