[s-cars] Can an AAN be pulled without opening the AC system?

Trying to think of any VAG machine since 1991 that the engine *can't* be pulled without first removing A/C.... Since the advent of the EPA mandates on A/C system recovery in the early 90's, most manufacturers, including all VAG products, make the A/C compressor removal without line-disconnect standard, and Audi special tool 2 foot bungie cord is all that's required to hang the condenser out of harms way.

Patient is an S6 with a broken motor (lower end's a knock-knockin') that I'm
preparing for engine removal and repair depending on degree of internal damage.
The R-134 system was charged and working before the rod knock started (car's
been down for a while, but shouldn't be discharged). Can the condenser be swung
to the side and the compressor removed to avoid opening the system? My Bentley
refuses to start up at the moment, so no idea of this is addressed by the Oracle
or not, and I couldn't find any relevant advice searching QW, or AW.
Thanks,
-Randy
