Jim,

I HIGHLY doubt it's your center bearing, for the little cost involved I would
recommend taking it to your local tech who

has a hoist/torch (other assorted cool toys) and have them clean regrease the
front bearing. If cost is a big concer you can
always call and get a quote from said tech.

I also recommend avoiding 034's bearing (BTDT), if you wish to rebuild your
drive shaft I do have a spare (doesn't everyone?)
that I can supply for you to rebuild and then swap thereby hopefully saving your
car downtime.

HTH
Chris

Subject: [s-cars] Driveshaft noise/vibration......next chapter

Hey guys,

So, I was able to mess around a bit under the car this weekend, looking to maybe
get to the front driveshaft CV and try to regrease it, per Scott J's impressions
this could be done with exhaust in place.  After many hours of wrestling around
with the car on a pair of jackstands, I concluded that I don't have the tools,
knowledge, nor the space right now, to do it this way.  The heat shields were
not able to be removed without messing with the exhaust, and the clearance
between the cats is ridiculously small, so I aborted the mission and put
everything back together so I at least have transportation.  I guess I'll need
to just bite the bullet and order up the new bearing, drop the exhaust and do it
right.  After the holidays.

I should do the center bearing while I'm at it, and curious as to what people
have done to modify the center bearings that are currently available for the urS
to make them fit.

I noticed a driveshaft rehab kit on Blau for like $500.  It this necessary?

Thanks for all the help so far......at least I know what I'm getting into now
(somewhat) when I find the time......I'm sure there will be plenty of questions
to follow.

Best regards,

Jim Fleischer
