[s-cars] Clutch Replacement

I'm not sure that is true. There may have been a mid-year change in pressure plate in 93. I ran into that when I bought mine from the Clutch Doctor in Denver. They had the wrong Luk number in the system, so take in your old one to make sure that you have the right one. Several listers have installed the wrong one, only to find that the bell housing would not close all the way, and had to do the whole thing over again.

The clutch is the same on all years. I would still suggest the Centerforce. Can't comment on the master cylinder...
BTW... when you get the Centerforce, you will see that it is a rebuilt Luk.

Dave,
Just found this email. I looked it up and came up with Centerforce DF074006
listed for '93-'94 S4, '95 S6. Amazon and Summit claim this won't fit my '92.
Is there actually a difference?
Debating whether to just get a Luk RepSet clutch kit off ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390037906364
It's part no. 02-025, which appears to be the correct part number, according to
previous posts on this list.
Also saw that there's one clutch master cylinder for '92 S4 up to 10/92
manufacture date, and another for S4/S6 built after 10/92. Are there other
differences I need to be aware of?

Chuck,
If I were you, I'd simply buy a Centeforce clutch. This was available from
Summit Racing for about $350. It is an OE Luk clutch and pressure plate that is
lightly modified... for additional spring pressure, and using different friction
material.
It acts and feels exactly like a stock unit, but has the additional grab if you
want/need it. Pedal effort remains virtually identical.
To me, there's no downside to the Centerforce unit. The cost is very
competitive, and the performance is superior.

Subject: [s-cars] Clutch Replacement
Hey guys,
My car has reached 147k miles and it is time to replace the clutch. I do
most of the work on my car myself but when it comes time for somebody else
to touch her I wont give her to just anyone, so I will be heading to
northern European automotive in NH tomorrow morning for the replacement.
The previous owner had work done there and from what I understand they are
good guys and they know their way around an s-car.
My question is they told me a stock clutch would be the best solution as my
car is only lightly modified (MTM 1+, stromung, samcos, suspension.) and
that the clutch will cost around $600 with about $600 in labor. Does this
sound right? Seems a little high for the clutch to be $600, blauparts and
autohausaz have some saches ones for around $350 but I'm not sure if they
are OEM, are they? Is there a cheaper way to source a stock clutch?
Thanks,
Chuck
