[s-cars] Clutch Replacement

Sorry... but I just don't get all this confusion. My aluminum flywheel was dimensionally identical to the stock dual-mass unit with respect to PP mounting and friction surface.

I think if you get the right parts from the right source, this is all very straightforward. There is no doubt, however, that the wrong clutch parts have been sent out from Centerforce on more than one occasion (including mine). It's pretty easy to trial fit everything before you put it all back together... and is cheap insurance against doing the job twice.

Dave

If you change to a 1-piece flywheel, you'll need to be sure that the
pressure plate matches the flywheel. The 7A flywheels move the friction
surface forward by 3/8 of an inch, and take a different style (and thicker)
PP than the dual mass. Most of the aftermarket flywheels are modeled after
the 7A, and will have the same issue.

Whatever you get, mock it up against the stock parts before you assemble
anything to ensure that the combo you end up with won't bind on the bell
housing. BTDT (I was one of the victims of the wrong LUK kit) and it is
definitely unfun to have to tear the car back down and re-do the whole
clutch installation.
