Below a certain outdoor temperature and I believe it's 32F, the compressor will not operate. If you are in a cold climate this is normal for the AC system. If you are trying to operate the system just to keep it occassionally circulating, you will need to wait for warmer weather.

Subject: [s-cars] AC problem
Date: Thu, 4 Feb 2010 12:21:29 -0800 (PST)
Patient is a 93 S4, I am having trouble with my AC it will not stay on, if I push the snowflake it illuminates but the second I take my finger away it goes out , sometimes it will stay on a few seconds but not usually. I checked the Climate control diagnostics and here is what I came up with Channel 1 , 11.7 central flap sporadic block, 15.1 Air flap motor potentiometer static open * digital value is programmed for limp home mode, 29.2 belt slip hard static and channel 52 the 88.8 display shows g1,g2,g3 system function OK but also d1 engine speed greater than 6000 rpms, this is at idle. I believe d1 is my problem or at least the one which makes the AC non functional. Where does it get its reading for rpm? As far as the rest what does this mean and where should I start to fix the problem? Best Regards, George
