Because of that reason a late, water-boxer, Vanagon was mentioned too.  
Not a Westy (camper), but the nice roomy 7 passenger Vanagon. They can  
be hard to find though.

This car certainly isn't a permanent thing, it's more of a "laid off  
and need to be frugal for an indeterminate time" sort of thing. He is  
usually a pretty successful guy and if I get him hooked on non-SUV's I  
see him with a few-year-old A8q or such when things pick up.
