Handedness for car parts is always based on sitting in the driver's seat, so
left=driver's side, right=passenger (in the US, anyway). The reason they
don't do "driver" vs. "passenger" side is that it varies depending on
whether the car is set up to drive on the left or on the right. Left/right
based on sitting in the driver's seat works regardless.
