Libertarian in the spirit of the word, not the political party- meaning
don't give the Federal government all of the power to do and regulate
everything.
Well let's see, to begin with:
Gun registration.
The right to carry firearms.
The right to own NFA firearms.
Stupid "cartridge registration" and "gun lock" laws like CA, MA and a bunch
of other states.
Castle doctrine.
Right to vote in primary elections regardless of your party affiliation (we
don't have this in PA).
Back to cars- I was writing my reply on my phone, so the response was rather
short:
Volvos don't have any issue with changing display languages and the like on
the C30, S40, S80, XC60, V70/XC70. I don't know how you can change the
language on an S60 or the older V70- that would probably require VADIS.
GM cars don't have this issue, either. I don't think newer Fords have an
issue, either- the customization menus are right in the radio or trip
computer controls.
While the spirit of this legislation might be good, I'm not a fan of
legislating everything under the sun- it's ridiculous and IMO, it's not a
good path to go down.
If you're that upset about what Audi might be doing, then vote with your
wallet- don't buy an Audi. If people had enough sense to do that, then
manufacturers that don't make what consumers want will fail. You don't need
to legislate what you want. I can customize all of the convenience settings
on my Corvette without ever visiting the dealership. Same thing if I bought
a new key- I can do that myself unless I have lost all of the my keys- then
you need a TechII to program things. I have a software program that can do
pretty much everything that a GM TechII can do, anyway, so it's really not
that big of a deal.
I won't buy any car that has "electronically actuating bolts" or some stupid
stuff like that, anyway- it's bound to fail and then what?
