[s-cars] V8 vs A8

Without repeating everyone's comments, I'm starting to see some post 90's S4
avants w. manual transmissions for decent prices in my neck of the woods
(Colorado). I could consider one myself.

They're smaller than my '95 S6 avant, but still seem quite decent for
hauling stuff while hauling ass.

I'll admit that my '95 has been a blast to own and hasn't hurt the wallet
too much. Tons of help from this list. Thanks, folks!

I've owned two 5000 TQAs plus a 100q and a 4000q, and I don't find the S6
too difficult to work on myself. I loved my type 44s but the S6 has been
more refined. As a data point, it has MTM stage I, with an RS2 exhaust
manifold and stebro exhaust system. Those are the only mods.

But, if I had one complaint, it would be that I screwed around with the
Apikol coil system. Waste of time and money and easily the most frustrating
part of my ownership experience. My own fault, as I was warned about Apikol
but didn't listen.

I think the rule of thumb is that you find the best car you can buy for what
you want to spend. It may be a 94 S4 sedan with tasteful mods and low miles,
or it might be a super clean A8 that has high miles but everything has been
fixed by the prior owner at the dealer for great expense, and all the
records are there to prove it. Be patient and look hard.

Good luck,

Tom '95 S6 Avant
